James Baldwin was an American essayist, novelist, and playwright whose eloquence and passion on the subject of race in America made him one of the 20th century’s greatest writers. Baldwin broke new literary ground exploring racial and social issues through his works. He is especially known for his eloquent, thoughtful, and passionate essays on the Black experience in America.
Through four alternating weeks, we’ll explore some of Baldwin’s writings, culminating with a showing of the documentary film, I am not your Negro, which is based on a final unfinished Baldwin manuscript.
Join us for an enlightening and fascinating exploration and discussion of this interesting and complex American writer—whether you’ve read Baldwin before or not.
