This 2-part class looks at the history of chocolate and some of the social issues that surround the cultivation and harvesting of cacao (part 1), and the various roles of chocolate in popular culture (part 2). In preparation for Part 1, participants are asked to read a brief Smithsonian Magazine article on the history of chocolate, which will be available in print form at the library upon registration for this class. There will be chocolate samples! Free adult class.
